Literature Circle Books

Hello LA Bloggers,
As I plan the next literature circle unit, I want your feedback. If you could please take the time to answer the following questions, I will definitely take your suggestions into consideration when planning the next round.

* What book did you read? Rate it from 1-10 with 10 being the highest. Why?
* What did you like most about meeting in a group to discuss your book?
* What did you like least about meeting in a group to discuss your book?
* Do you have any suggestions for improving literature circles?

Please keep in mind that constructive criticism is the most helpful. Ex: I hated my book. (is not constructive)

Thanks Blogsters!

  2. Thanks Josh! Glad you liked the book.
Did you get your first or second book choice? Just wondering because I tried to give everyone a book they selected.
    Thanks for your feedback.

  3. I read the Schwa Was Here. I guess it was about an 8-9. It was really weird and interesting but still good! I liked being able to hear what other people thought of the book and how they percevied the ideas. I didn't always like how some people would get off track. I mean that's more of that specific person's fault, but it was still distractiing sometimes. I think making smaller groups of like 3 or 4 would make it better. The 5-6 that we had before was fine, but I think that when groups are smaller it's harder to get as distracted. There can be like 2 groups with the same book, but the groups being smaller is helpful.

  4. * I read the Schwa Was Here. I'd give the book a rating of a 8.5 or 9.5. There were many shocking twists and I just wanted to keep on reading. :D
    * I liked the fact that we all got to show our point of views on what happened in the story. Everyone took what had happened differently than another.
    * I didn't like how sometimes some of us got off track. I mean, sometimes our discussions had to deal with the book, but it would tend to stray..
    * I think that maybe, to improve our groups, the sizes could be a bit smaller. Maybe, in addition, there should be a few more book selections?
(I sorta agree with Cassi a lot in this. xD )
... Oh ehm gee, everyone who's posted so far are from my group! YAY! xp

  5. Thanks for your input!

I love the idea of smaller groups and will definitely take this into consideration.

Do you have any suggestions for what could improve on-task group time?

  6. Lots of times I've seen that when you shrink the group size it helps the focus. Especially as long as maybe you can figure a way to have at least one pretty focused person in the group it really helps. That person is more likely to keep 2 people task than 4.

Just re-responding to your question. :)

  7. I read To Be A Slave. I would give it a 9.76 , because the beginning was difficult to understand until you finished the prologue and you understood that it was from the authors perspective. What I liked most about meeting with our literature circles was that everyone interpreted the text differently and it was cool to see that what they thought was WAY different from the person who said something else.I didn't really not like anything with the literature circles.I think that you should keep the lit. circles the way they are with the 4-5 people who were in it. :)

  9. i read The Schwa and it was probably 8-9. It was very interesting and kind of weird.I liked hearing what other people thought about the book and how they connected wiht it. I think to improve the groups you could make them smaller and not do all the roles each day. Besides that, i liked literature circles alot.

  10. i read the schaw was here and i guess i give it a 9. It was fun to read but not very interesting. I didn't like the end and i hated not being able to pick the group. It would increase collaboration if the kids can work with other kids that they want.

  12. I read The Schwa Was Here and I give it an 8 because it was really good! I love non-fiction books with a hint of mystery! Anyway I really liked meeting in groups and seeing what people thought and their ideas! I liked how it was organized so I really can't critisize the way it was last time.

  13. I read the schwa was here it was really good, but kind of wierd i would give it an 8-9. I think the groups shold be smaller so that we can get more done and won't be so distracted because my group had a couple people that got distracted very easily.
