What events in the beginning of this book were most surprising to you?

How can we learn from these historical events?

Questions for the Week of May 2nd-May 6th:

Choose TWO questions to answer. You must use specific support and detail from the book to earn full credit.

-Why do you think the author wrote this book? Give examples from the book. Write in complete sentences.

-Write a poem about characters, plot events, and the theme of the book. Your poem should demonstrate comprehension of the novel. Poems should not be in complete sentences.

-Make a timeline of events in the life of one of the civil rights leaders you have read about. Start at the beginning and continue to your next role. You can use bulleted events for this entry.

  1. Hello Everyone!

Please remember the exposition includes characters, setting, central conflict, theme and background. You should have enough detail to demonstrate comprehension of the exposition.

  2. The most suprising point event in the beginning to me was finding out it was millions of black people as slaves, and they were owned by white people.

We can learn by trying to keep black people out of slavery.

  3. What was most suprising to me was that this book goes deep into history of slaves and people that made changes in history. Some things I never heard before because they go into deatil of this book.

We can learn from these historical events by using the methods they used in the past and try to improve it on the present and future.

  4. The most surprising part in the begining of the novel was when it stated that the Emancipation Proclamation made by Lincoln was accually a political move to win the war, not an act of kindness. Which is the complete opposite of what they would tell you in grade school. Why would they lie about that? Gueses you have to be your own hero in this world. Like Gahndi said, " Be the change that you want to see in the world."

The most surprising event at the begging of the story was hearing about the millions of slaves that were being used(ruled)by whites and the blacks that fought for there rights no matter what.
These historical events help us learn for the future, for example preventing us from committing the same mistakes again and giving everyone equal rights.

I think the author wrote this book.so that we can learn (or be entertained) about the discrimination and non equal treatment before the civil war.
My book is realistic.it states/tells about different true stories that actually happened to african americans, and the struggle that they faced to get their rights back.

Iam doing the poem: Whites like to fight not for there right. They thought blacks were whacks, what a despite. There were lynchings, beatings and everything, to let blacks know they were not apart of the society. There were slaves and also braves, just to fight for there right.

This is my paragraph. I think my book They had a dream is a 8 of 10. The thing i liked about my book was there was alot of cool 1st hand experiance stories. I think i should recommend this book to every kind of reader. Yes i think this book should be in the litery circle again because it tells you alot about our history in the past. It shows you opinions and everything.

From a one to a ten, I rate the book “they had a dream” a nine. The thing that I liked the most about this book is that it is historical. (Helps your learn things you’ve never learned before, in more detail.) The one thing t disliked the most from this book is that it is broken into sections, by who did what? For example a section about Fredrick Douglass, Marcus Garvey, Malcom X, and so on. I would recommend this book to someone that is very interested in historical education. Although I enjoyed this book I wouldn’t recommend it for literature circles next year. Because it is too much information to read after all you classes. I think students need book that aren’t concentrated on learning material.
